This blog has moved!

I put this old blog on a moving truck ages ago, and it has finally FINALLY arrived at it's new destination! We're still putting the final tweaks on our new "home", but it's up and running and you should definitely head over right now to see all of the latest images. All new posts will go up at our new site, so don't bother checking back at this one. And just in case you have trouble with the link, our new address is: www.tanialezakblog.com

See you over there!

p.s. When you go, make sure you update your address books...in the blog world, that translates to browser bookmark and RSS feeds!

Cheers,
Tania

We won!

The WPJA just released the winning images from their Q4 wedding photography contest and we nailed another award! Yahoo!

I'll admit it. I'm not shy. I looooooove to win. Especially when the competition is so fierce, and the quality of work submitted by WPJA photographers worldwide is so high, and the judges are so talented and well-respected.

And of course, when it means I get a shiny little ribbon next to my name.

Here's the winning image from Amy & Tom's wedding this past fall in Ocean City, Maryland. Amy was a ROCKstar -- it was so cold and windy that day....

Kirk & Chrissie's Big Day (with Andrew Bryant) . January 12, 2008

On Saturday I had the great pleasure of spending the day shooting with my new pal, the incredibly talented Andrew Bryant. I rarely ever second shoot, and it was so much fun to just show up with my camera and play for the day. We met up at Chrissie's parents' home to shoot the girls getting ready, and right off the bat everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The chaos level was surprisingly low considering that there were 10 bridesmaids upstairs getting ready....

I couldn't decide which dress shot I liked best, so here are both:

Another spunky ring shot for the collection....

The church was decorated with all kinds of gorgeous lights and wreaths from the holidays, and they had the lights set very low -- the whole effect was breathtaking.

The bride and her her dad just before their big walk down the aisle....

The Talamore Country Club in Ambler was all decked out like a winter wonderland for the reception:

Contagious (the band) rocked the dance floor all night long -- and when I looked them up, I realized they belong to the same entertainment group as my favorite wedding band from '07 -- Jelly Roll. If you're looking for a great band for your wedding or party, I definitely recommend checking out the groups at Brandywine Valley Talent.

Make sure you stop by Andrew Bryant's blog to see more great shots from Kirk & Chrissie's wedding! (Thanks Andrew -- I had a great time shooting with you!)

Finishing 2007 with a BANG!

Just before we left town for the holidays I received some excellent news -- one of my images placed in the latest AGWPJA contest! For those of you who aren't familiar with the lingo, that's code for the Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Association. The only way to become a member of the AGWPJA is -- first to be accepted as a member of the WPJA -- and then to place within the top ten of an AGWPJA image contest.... If you take a spin through the winning images, you'll see that this is not an easy feat. I am so incredibly proud to be included in this amazing group of international award-winning photographers. Below is a shot of our winning image (see the judge's comments at the bottom)!

I am so excited about what's to come in 2008. This year has been an incredible run....I've met so many amazing people on my travels and I am so thankful to all of my clients for bringing me along as part of their day. In 2007, of the many destinations we traveled to for various shoots, these were a few of our favorites: Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia, Denmark, Germany, and Russia. I've already got a ton of great trips on the calendar for '08, including Aruba, China, North Carolina, Delaware, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, and I'm ready for more! I'd really love to head out to the Colorado/Montana/Utah area this year, so if anyone is looking for (or knows of someone looking for) a wedding/portrait photographer in any of those areas, please let me know. I promise I'll take very good care of them. :) And as always, our passports are current and we're ready to join you wherever you might be headed!

Thank you again to all of my wonderful clients in 2007 -- I can't wait to meet this year's amazing group of couples and families! Happy new year to you all!

Christina & Ali's Wedding . Philadelphia, PA

. November 3, 2007 .

If I described Christina & Ali's wedding as anything other than one big fun party, I just wouldn't be doing it justice. The entire day was a blast...and their 10 bridesmaids and 10 groomsmen were troopers despite the chilly weather and arctic wind that kicked up while I was shooting their formals.

Christina & Ali were both so relaxed all day -- it was clear that they just complement each other perfectly. Below are a few of my favorites from the day. Click here to see their full slideshow!

Christy & Jarrett's Engagement Shoot

. the big day = May 31, 2008 .

A few weeks ago I met up with my fabulous '08 couple Christy & Jarrett in Philadelphia to shoot their engagement session. We first met last April to chat about their wedding, and about 2 minutes into our meeting, I knew that they would be a ton of fun! Christy has such a sweet smile and warm personality, and Jarrett seemed genuinely interested in their plans for the big day. How can you not love that?! :) When I asked them if they had any special requests for where they wanted to shoot their engagement session, they came up with a little list of locations around Philadelphia, including Love Park...so that's where we started our day!

They were such great sports the whole day! I had forgotten to warn them that sometimes we get a little dirty in the process of shooting, and even though Christina had on these beautiful creamy white pants, she was totally up for scuffing the heck out of them! And boy, did we ever try to get them dirty.... At various points throughout the morning, I asked Christy & Jarrett to sit on metal newspaper boxes....on the ground in a parking garage....on the street....and they were up for everything! Even when the newspaper box threatened to topple over into the middle of a busy street with them aboard. I'm happy to report that they (and the pants) survived. :)

It was tough to pick, but I think this is my favorite shot of the day....

I've been playing around with some fun textures recently and I thought they added a little zip to this shot. What do you think? Leave a comment at the bottom of the post and let me know if you like it!

Funny story about this shot.... we were strolling around Old City when I saw this great little alley that we just HAD to go down.... We got all set up and I fired off a couple of shots....and about 20 seconds after I shot this photo, this scruffy skinny guy appeared out of nowhere in the middle of this alley -- barefoot and in his underwear (and nothing else)! Apparently he had locked himself out of his apartment.... Now. Why he had been outside of his apartment in nothing but his underwear on a Sunday morning is the real question.... Nothing like a random meeting with an barefoot underweared stranger to make your day interesting!!

C&J: Thanks again for being such great sports that day!! You guys were a blast to hang with....I can't wait for your wedding next May!

Tania Lezak Photography in the New York Times!

Just wanted to send out a big congratulations to yesterday's bride & groom, Christina & Ali, for their big appearance in today's New York Times! I snagged a copy of the online article below, but you can also click here to see the article yourself (or flip to page 23 of the Style section in the actual paper -- Christina & Ali are right at the top!) The image they picked was one of the shots from their awesome engagement session in New Haven this summer. I spent the day photographing their wedding in Philadelphia yesterday, and despite a bit of wind and some chilly temps, it was absolutely perfect. Check back in a few days to see a few preview shots from their ceremony at Villanova & rockin' reception at The Baldwin School.

Congratulations guys!!

Michelle & Paul's big day . Nanticoke, MD

A few weeks ago I drove down to Nanticoke -- a sweet little beach town on the coast of Maryland -- to shoot Michelle & Paul's wedding. I can't say enough great things about this bride & groom and their families -- everyone was so kind and really into the day. Michelle & Paul celebrated their wedding with a very peaceful, moving Quaker ceremony right on the ocean. And after a few photos, the whole party strolled back down the street to the reception, which was a tent overlooking the ocean and a scrumptious clam bake. Apparently Paul loves clamming and really knows his stuff when it comes to all of that, so he hopped right in and helped out with the cooking. I loved how everyone chipped in to make their day easy and relaxed. And the warm sunny weather just topped the day off!

Here are a few favorites from the day!

a fun ring shot....can you spot them??

This little guy kept jumping in front of my lens all day, so at the end of the day I gave him his own little portrait shoot. I think he enjoyed it. :)

Michelle & Paul traded in their bridal gear for some comfier clothes toward the end of the day, which I thought was awesome. I think this shot embodies the fun, relaxed feel of their big day perfectly!

Michelle & Paul -- thanks for teaching me the best way to crack into a crab....and for making me feel so welcome! It was an honor being there for your amazing day. :)

Amy & George's Big Day . West Chester, PA

Despite the 90 degree weather, Amy & George's wedding this weekend turned out to be a fantastic day! It's always an honor to be invited to document a couple's wedding day, but Amy actually graduated from and teaches at the hugely prestigious Brooks Institute -- an amazing photography school, and REALLY knows her stuff when it comes to shooting, I was enormously honored when she asked me to come out and photograph their day. :) Yahoo! So, I met up with the crew for some getting ready shots at the Folke stone B&B in West Chester. Later, we headed over to George's parents' house where everything was decorated with a fall theme for the outdoor ceremony & reception. They had so many different musicians playing and cool little details set up....intricately carved pumpkins as candle holders on the tables.....a lounge area.....a red & orange sand ceremony....I just loved how creative they were!

Here's the scoop:
Ceremony & reception: Private residence, West Chester, PA
Ceremony musicians: Debra Lee & Rick Denzien
DJs: Ron & Jesse Pryor of DJQ
Band: the Groom's father's kickin' big band -- Big G and the Cool Cats

Amy came downstairs looking absolutely stunning:

While George's groomsmen were waiting for the ladies to get ready, they took over the living room at the B&B and busted out a little lounge music:

Grams and gramps were just the cutest....

Thanks guys -- it was an excellent day!!

Joey & Eran's Big Day . Catskill Mountains, NY

Thanks to Joey & Eran and their whole crew for being so patient while I worked my way through a backlog to this post! Things were a little crazy when we got back from shooting in Europe..... I had 2 days when I got home to answer the huge pile of mails (e-, voice, snail, etc!) that had built up while we were gone, adjust to the time change, and then it was off to Amy & Eric's wedding on Saturday. I finished shooting at around 6 pm, stopped at home, grabbed my bag, and hopped back in the car to head up to the Catskills for Joey & Eran's wedding on Sunday. It was a pretty hectic weekend, but SOOOOoooo worth it. Joey & Eran's wedding was one of the most gorgeous I've been to. Stacey Kallenberg was the coordinator, and she and her assistant did such an amazing job!

Here's the scoop:
Ceremony & Reception: Kutz Camp, Warwick, NY
Flowers: the fabulous Zak & Company
Coordinator: As You Wish Wedding & Event Design

Joey looked just radiant all day long.....

Seeing each other all dressed up for the first time....

Joey & Eran signing their ketubah...the contract was so gorgeous, it was truly a piece of art:

I had to grab a shot of the trees around the ceremony site....they looked so cool.

I've gotten a bunch of emails and questions lately asking if I shoot the typical formal (or not so formal) family/bridal party pictures in addition to all of our other shots....and the answer is, of course we do! I just don't post them on the blog too often. I guess I figure you all know what those formal shots look like already....but maybe I'm wrong! Anyway, for those of you who've been asking, here's a little sample for ya...

and sometimes the formals end up like this.... :) Eran's entire family traveled all the way from Israel to be there for their big day -- it was so cool to see a family that was so far apart yet still really close. That just makes me happy.

They had a big candy bar filled with all kinds of green sugary treats....and little take home bags so you could pack yourself a snack! Really, is there a better thing in the world?

One last mega-sized shot.... :)

Joey & Eran: It was a gorgeous day -- I was so honored to be a part of it. Hope you and your families made it home safely!!

Amy & Eric's big day . September 1, 2006

Ready for the scoop on this one? Amy & Eric put together the most amazing country wedding.....complete with horse-drawn (and tractor-drawn!) hay wagons to chauffeur their guests up to the ceremony site, which was at the very top of a gorgeous hill on their farm. It was a perfect day.....sunny and warm with the most amazing blue skies. And only ONE grasshopper climbed up my pants. Not a bad day at all!

Gotta love a girl who's not afraid to wear her Manolos on the farm!!

Old farm stuff always makes for the best photos.....

The gorgeous ceremony site:

Cake and horses....two of my favorite things!!

I loved how laidback Amy & Eric were all day.....they were such a joy to photograph with their ear-to-ear grins!!! They made sure to take some time out with their puppy Daisy. Is she not the most adorable little pup?!

Grandma was just the cutest... I couldn't stop photographing her!

The cake cutting was very sweet. The cake feeding.....NOT so sweet. :)

Amy & Eric were nice enough to put out a jungle gym to keep the kiddos busy. (Shhhhh....I didn't tell them it was really a hay wagon.)

This ol' guy was pestering me to shoot his portrait ALL DAY LONG..... :) I love it when guests want to be involved! He was a very jolly bearded fellow. Good stuff.

The day wouldn't be complete without a shot of the rings.....on top of.....you know it, a big ol' tractor tire!

Congratulations Amy & Eric!!!

Patricia & Mike's Big Day . Oberammergau, Germany!

When I started editing through Patricia & Mike's images, I realized pretty quickly that there was no way I was going to be able to weed my favorites down to 20 or so shots (like I usually do for the blog)... there were just way too many to post! So, I decided to go a different route this time and make a little movie for you instead...

But first, a little backstory.... Patricia and Mike's wedding in Oberammergau, Germany was absolutely gorgeous! The day started out like most weddings do.... There was the getting ready, the church, the ceremony, the photos with the bridal party.....

......and then.....

....ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE!!!! About two seconds after we finished the last formal shot, Patricia's cousins ran by, scooped her up, and took off with the bride! They had her ride (this adorable little wagon) all decorated and waiting in the wings....dropped her into it and took off down the street in a mini-parade!!! So there we were......about 20 people all dressed up, parading through the streets, pulling a bride in her little bridey wagon, led by her cousin who was playing the accordion the whole way! IT WAS NUTS!!! Of course, this is all happening right in the little village so we're walking by all the cafes, and everyone was cheering and clapping and snapping shots like the paparazzi.... So the whole parade rolls into the Altepost (another hotel/cafe place in town) and drinks are served all around and everyone starts singing German songs.....

Meanwhile, the room is gradually getting more and more crowded as more guests from the wedding reception stroll down to find where the heck the bride and the rest of the wedding party have gone, and the room is about 120 degrees with all of the people squeezed into this little place....and suddenly there's a big commotion....

...and Mike (the groom) comes busting into the room dressed in some wacky outfit and carrying a broom, with the entire oom-pa-pa German band and the other half of the wedding guests right on his heels!!!! The whole thing was complete and utter Bavarian craziness and it could not have been more fun. :) In the end, about 90% of the wedding guests ended up at the Altepost partying, singing, and dancing for a good 2 hours....and then the ENTIRE wedding paraded back down through streets to the reception site and the wedding continued on. What a night!!

So now that you have the story, are you ready to see it all happen? :) Click here to check it out!
(Warning for all you workplace readers: there's music on this one, so if you don't want to get busted make sure you turn the volume down on those speakers!)

p.s. The slideshow takes a few seconds to load...but I promise it's worth it. Enjoy!
